Organization Profile

At the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing in 1995, delegates set a goal to ensure 30 per cent women in positions of public leadership. Since then, around 100 countries have introduced affirmative action policies, resulting in a doubling of the global average of women in national parliaments from 11.3% in 1995 to 24.3% in 2018. However, India’s performance leaves much to be desired. According to data released by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in 2021, India is ranked 148 out of 193 countries when it comes to representation of women in its national parliament. In India, politics is still seen as a male bastion. Women in politics face multifarious challenges – sexism of voters, family and social pressure, misogynistic counterparts, financial struggle, lack of policy and subject knowledge etc. Faced with these roadblocks, very few women enter politics, and even fewer sustain a long political career.

Femme First Foundation is a non-partisan, non-profit organisation committed to amplifying women leadership in Indian politics. It is an undeniable fact that politics encompasses all the elements of the society, making it the most influential route to effect positive change. Keeping this in mind, under the leadership of Ms. Angellica Aribam, Femme First Foundation aims to nurture and groom women political leaders for a brighter and better India.
