Femme First Foundation, a nonpartisan nonprofit organisation, is at the forefront in amplifying women’s leadership in India since the last few years. One of its flagship programs — Women in Government Conclave — is an international platform where renowned leaders representing diverse political parties from around the world come together to discuss how to advance women’s leadership. We are organising the fourth edition of this conclave called the Women in Government Conclave - Northeast Edition to promote and showcase women’s empowerment in India. Since 2019, our Women in Government platform has been pioneering the discourse of women’s political representation and setting the agenda for women’s leadership in India. The previous three editions of this event crossed one million+ viewers on Times Now and The Quint.
Event: Women in Government Conclave - Northeast Edition
Date: 10th-11th February, 2022
Venue: Cotton University, Guwahati
This edition of Women In Government will be held over a period of 2 days comprising workshops, panel discussions, and interviews. It is empowered by the Government of Assam. The broad topics we aim to cover are women’s leadership in public service and politics, the scope of women’s entrepreneurship, the importance of men’s allyship for gender equality, mental health, etc. The Chief Guest of the event will be Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma, Honorable Chief Minister of Assam. We will also have Ms. Violeta Bermudez, Prime Minister of Peru (2020-2021) virtually share her experiences of leading a country through the COVID-19 pandemic. Other speakers Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assemblies, Foreign diplomats, and Spokespersons representing various political parties. It will be attended by senior politicians, bureaucrats, international women’s organizations, civil society leaders, journalists, academics, etc.
The previous three editions hosted 45 political leaders from across the world. The media partners were Times Now and The Quint respectively. The first edition was held in 2019 in New Delhi and focused on the challenges women politicians face with speakers from the Aam Aadmi Party, Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress, and Shiv Sena. It was a grand success and broadcast on Times Now as their primetime NewsHour discussion. The second and third edition was held in 2020 & 2021 in collaboration with The Quint. The speakers were from Biju Janata Dal, Communist Party of India-Marxist, Bharatiya Janata Party, Samajwadi Party, Congress, Nationalist Congress Party along with Members of Parliaments from New Zealand, Mexico, Sierra Leone, Israel, and Romania. We also hosted representatives from renowned organisations like Vital Voices, an NGO founded by Ms. Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State, USA; Harvard Kennedy School; EMILY's List; Embassy of Sweden, PRS Legislative Research; etc.
